AMD Sempron 64 microprocessor
AMD Sempron processor family is a budget line of AMD desktop microprocessors. The family is based on two architectures:
- K7 architecture. All K7 Sempron processors are compatible with socket 462 (socket A). For description of these processors please see AMD K7 Sempron page.
- K8 architecture. Majority of Sempron processors use socket 754. Some recently released Sempron processors use socket 939. Many recently produced Sempron processors support 64-bit mode - these processors are usually called Sempron 64.
This page describes only microprocessors based on K8 architecture. K8 Sempron CPUs are based on the same core as Athlon 64 processors, with some of processor features limited:
- Earlier Sempron microprocessors didn't support 64-bit mode.
- The processors have smaller size of L2 cache - 128 Kb or 256 KB.
- The processors have single channel memory controller and slower HyperTransport link.
Like their K7 Sempron counterparts, K8 Sempron CPUs use rated speed which is relative to performance of Intel Celeron processors.
